Did someone swap the signposts at that crossroad? A cunning deviation sent me traipsing down the wrong road I known I’ve got some direction in my own soul You made me lose my way And now I’m falling down your manhole The sun was rising in the sky I never thought to wonder why Now I begin to surmise I saw your witch-hazel eyes It’s the start of something big and meaningful The start of something deep and beautiful She said that I’d forget you Maybe some prophecies come true For she said I’d see tomorrows new dawn too Which way do you think that I should go now? I’m back at that crossroads but this time I’ve brought a map I’ve hauled the weight of the world upon these shoulders I don’t want to carry you upon my aching back The sun is setting in the west I lay my head down on her breast Now that I begin to rest I see there was no contest It’s the start of something big and meaningful The start of something deep and beautiful She said that I’d forget you Maybe some prophecies come true For she said I’d see tomorrows new dawn too She said that I’d forget you Maybe some prophecies come true For she said I’d see the new dawn through It’s the start of something big and meaningful (Something crazy, yet divine) The start of something deep and beautiful (Something amazing, yet benign)

Edgware Road 04:29
He has his mood swings on K-Tel And never said he felt so well He's afraid he's frayed his only hope To be left swinging from a soap on a rope He's still travels East, the Circle Line, From Baker Street to Baker Street Never quite managed to jump off at Edgware Road And you can't give up while you're ahead When you never get ahead Because you're always running in penultimate place You're not even bad enough to be last At least that would be some sort of distinction Whatever philosophical toilet he sits and thinks on Must almost give him strength to carry on He’s been round and round and round and round He's been lost and found and lost and found And lost His life is like the M25 But though he thanks fuck he’s still alive He always returns to where he started There was never any faithful to be departed He's still travels East, the Circle Line, From Baker Street to Baker Street Never quite managed to jump off at Edgware Road And you can't give up while you're ahead When you never get ahead Because you're always running in penultimate place You're not even bad enough to be last At least that would be some sort of distinction Whatever philosophical toilet he sits and thinks on Must almost give him strength to carry on He’s been round and round and round and round He's been lost and found and lost and found And lost

When you set your hair on fire Cutting out the liars and the wired Taking down every life inspired It’s just so Everyone knows their own place Everyone knows their own place If I had run Would you have run any faster? 25-miles exclusion zone Around your compassion And everyone here, Everyone knows their own place Everyone knows their own place How could you always turn away? I’m asking nicely Why you should stop and see How the other half lives You’re gonna to hurt somebody If you want to hurt somebody It might as well be me Real beauty, well, it’s only skin-deep Contain yourself boys I know what you seek And everyone, Everyone knows their own place Everyone knows their own place Though we have feasted From the toppest table We’re on our knees And we’ll scrounge the crumbs your floor Everyone here, Everyone knows their own place Everyone knows their own place How can you always turn away? I’m asking nicely Why you should stop and see How the other half lives You’re gonna to hurt somebody If you want to hurt somebody It might as well be me It might as well be me You might as well hurt me Might as well hurt me

Lusitania 06:07
When I’m washed-up on a deserted mind Free at least from my mother’s tide My mother’s side In a sea that thinks like bourbon on the rocks That news still comes as such a shock Didn’t see you there When were you ever there? No guts to see it through And you knew, you knew Take me away, Lusitania Take me away, Lusitania Water’s so cold From the tales the seafarers told They made me stay Though I’m hopefully grief-stricken Shipwrecked and frost-bitten, almost smitten Any drift towards an Atlantic coast Is away from the one I love the most When will she sail away? Did they ever sail my way? Maybe it’s hard to fathom That I never let them The boiling bourbon sea Should’ve made her fall for me But tell the Lusitania That I never let her Take me away, Lusitania Take me away, Lusitania The water’s so cold From the tales the seafarers told They made me stay If I could stand for What I stood for Then I’d swim for The shore

Jigsaw 05:19
I lived in Dullsville, Tennessee Where no-one dared to visit me I drew the curtains on the rainskies Went to pieces in my lover’s eyes Left those pieces on the floor You took the jigsaw of my dreams And made the picture in the my hands Your spirit calms like morphine It clears the raindrops from these vagrant lands You picked the pieces from the floor Takes the pressure off me It makes it easy on me Takes the pressure off me I cannot think for myself You’ve got the complete picture Do you like what you can see? Didn’t leave me with a rough edge It’s filled the gaps in all my dreams You won’t lose one small piece of me Takes the pressure off me It makes it easy on me Takes the pressure off me I cannot think for myself And where you lead, I’ll follow When you jump I’ll make that leap Now the challenge is complete Will you box me up so neat Find a attic space Leave me to the dust and defeated You’ll still have one small piece of me Takes the pressure off me It makes it easy on me Takes the pressure off me I cannot think for myself And where you lead, I’ll follow When you jump I’ll make that leap

Every girl knows how to get all her joys But, oh, boys will be boys We never think we’re good enough And all these friendships are illusions It’s some delusion To think we can all be that tough Is there something you want to tell me? Now what could you have to say You compress the body, restrict the thought Any way you please, it’s like your papa taught Take me any way you want me I sense feelings your lips can’t convey And all this time you’ve heard me say That I’d never thought of you that way No, I’d never thought of you that way So what are we doing here Is it the fear that we find too attractive We’re out of our depths and out of our minds And we can try and try and never get it right If only I could dream But it’s keeping me awake at night Is there something you want to tell me? Whatever you have to say, oh, say it now And if before I’d ever been so helpless Now our time has come to confess So take me any way you want me I sense feelings your lips can’t convey And all this time you’ve heard me say That I’d never thought of you that way And I’d never thought of you that way Why have I never thought of you Never thought of you Well, I’ve never thought of you that way And I’ve never thought of you Never thought of you No, I’ve never thought of you that way Well, I’ve never thought of you Never thought of you Well, I’d never thought of you that way Well, I’d never thought of you that way

Somewhere out there I found my dreams intact Somewhere out there I saw a future beckon to me Somewhere out there I saw a face that changed one thousand lives And somewhere out there I chanced upon a destiny Somewhere out there There lies the answer to my fears Somewhere out there I'll find the changes to the years Somewhere out there I'll watch a chasten thousand souls And somewhere out there I'll watch them lose their self-control Life was something precious to them They wasted all their years Crying into someone elses unforbidden tears Forget yourself, or so they say Death lives on in other ways Fifty years, for what it pays The price of buried lives You can't predict the future Like you can't forgive the past I'm losing all my freedom to ghosts the dead outlast It changes all the ways I think Before the time an eye could blink And be brought back from on the brink One thousand souls reach out They brought me down to earth And crushed the final lust Showered me with senses I can't convey They sacrificed my love And cleansed my sacred stains Turned me to a state of disarray They watered down my dreams And canonised my soul Only now can I understand what it was I threw away Only now can I understand what it was I threw away Memories, memories If my memory can wait awhile upon your mind Maybe I can escape my time But if my memory just faded out into the haze At least I'll have the knowledge That I once burned unto your gaze Somewhere out there I wrote the words that changed a world Somewhere out there I watched one thousand souls unfurled Somewhere out there I thought your face looked just the same But somewhere in here I know I've known you like I'll never know again

about

Our 2012 album, with some strong influences of early The Divine Comedy—albeit with less tongue-in-cheek literary references—cross pollinated indie-pop and big ballads with something approaching a "big band" sound with strings and brasses.

A lifetime of joy, hope, passion, loss and finally inevitable misery compressed into a single album, "Bourbon on the Rocks" includes the lyrical rock version of "Everything in its own place", now retitled "Everyone Knows Their Own Place", the big ballads of "Careful What You Wish For" and "Jigsaw", and the gentle reflection on war and loss, "Lusitania", closing with the Pink Floydian epic "One Thousand Souls".

about

The Quixotes London, UK

With infectious and highly melodic tunes, The Quixotes specialize in songs about abject misery. Straddling multiple genres including electronica, indie- rock, 80's pop and blues. The rather schizophrenically monikered Quixotes were in fact merely one Matt Black, a London- based singer- songwriter. ... more
